The Washington Society of Professional Engineers (WSPE) is excited to announce a very special evening for our members. Dinner: 7:00 PM
Program: 8:00 PM
Steve will discuss how and why welding causes distortion of welded fabrications, compensation and preventative tactics, and some case histories including the Shipping Container for the Hubble Telescope, Equipment for the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, LCAC air cushion hover craft.
Steve's Background in Local Industry:
For over 40 years, Steve Pollard, now retired, has been part of many successful teams where he’s been blending the art and science of welding, metallurgy and general manufacturing technology. He first trained as a welder at Bath Iron Works Shipyard after completing his BS degree in Materials Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Since then, he was the Senior Welding Engineer at Lockheed Shipbuilding Company and then started and managed the Fabrication Division at Machinists Inc. in Seattle.
He is intimately familiar with all arc welding and associated technologies and their application on medium and high strength steels, aluminum, stainless steels, copper and nickel alloys and some titanium. And he has lots of experience in distortion control and correction, including flame bending, and specializes in complex geometry and close tolerance, welded fabrication.
